2010 PARIS MARATHON
On Sunday 31st January we succeeded in a tele-physiological operation which you were able to follow on the billat.net website.
Michel, marathon runner in 2h40 ran 3 circles of 7km along the banks of the river seine, equipped with a physiological monitoring device, the weather was superb (yes even in the Paris suburbs one can see blue skies) it was dry and cold.
During that time, Jacques and I followed Michel in the warmth of a PMU café (betting shop), while drinking a hot cup of tea and thinking of the bets we would take on the America Horse Grand Prix and dreaming of putting into practice our scientific knowledge to the equine world in order to help finance our future research (during an economic crisis, any solution may be considered).
More seriously, we followed Michel and we propose you participate in this fabulous adventure of real life race and physio follow-up, not for on-line bets to see which of the club’s runners is going to win, but to be able to coach a runner live and to be able to compare his sensations at finish to objective data.
Indeed, very often runners forget that they have sensations at the finish of a marathon and it will be fascinating to be able to immediately (even before a shower or the prize giving) to read over his race with data of the Heart rate, speed, blood oxygen saturation (indicator of a good & efficient ventilation), ECG, respiratory frequency and soon to come blood pressure and heart rate.
For example, Michel had difficulty in differentiating his semi speed from his marathon speed. I had asked him to run 3 circles of 7km in which he had to run 15 minutes at “easy footing” 15 minutes at marathon speed and 15 minutes at semi speed. His sensation of not distinguishing the difference proved to be false and we were able to communicate to him that in actual fact he had a speed, a different hear rate with a good oxygen saturation whereas he did not feel in top form at the start of the training. Whilst he was in the field we were able to give him this feedback live without him having to look at a detector.
Live survey from a distance opens real prospects for trainers and friends of athletes who could not come to all the races and sessions.
We propose for you to participate in this on line follow-up of your race in the 2010 Paris Marathon on the 11th April.
You have the possibility of having 2 physiological follow-ups : from the most simple to the most complete
Simple formula: Cell phones + heart rate detectors and saturator on the finger (100gr): race analysis and live follow-up of your route through Paris, with your speed, heart rate and blood oxygen saturation: 10 possible places; you will be able to be followed on line by a friend or coach, either on our stand or at home and you will have tips on race management for your next marathon.
For this Science formula you will have a free complete VO2MAX testing the lab before the Paris Marathon at the date most convenient to you + a personalized training and nutritional program for your next marathon (value > 1000 euros).
10 possible places.
You will have a personal space on the billat.net website for you to give us the feedback of your race and you will have the status of partner of the laboratory.
You will have contributed to progress in terms of scientific training as progress is valid only if it is shared and this is important.
Candidates who have already participated in the R2PH sessions will have priority.
Are you ready and game for the adventure?
